The O.A.R.R. Method

Observe

Something about them that stirs your curiosity. Don't just check a box. Really follow your curiosity

Ask

As an open ended question: Why; Use "How" and "What" questions.

Reflect

Say back to them what you heard them say. You may think you'r just repeated but often times things are lost in translation. ProTip: if they're being brief, intentionally reflect back an incorrect picture of what they said. You'll be shocked how willing they'll be to clarify.

Relate

Share something about yourself that relates to the topic at hand. This allows you to share about yourself without requiring the other person to be a skilled question asker (most people are NOT).
